Bridgewater's New Masterpiece: A Mural That Captures Country
See the Environment of Bridgewater from a New Perspective, Thanks to the Stirling Markets.

There's something special happening in Bridgewater. And if you've walked past the town centre this week, you've probably already felt it.
On Saturday afternoon, local Aboriginal artist Thomas Readett—known professionally as TR Visual Arts—put the finishing touches on a stunning new mural that has transformed a blank wall into a vibrant tribute to the place we call home.
And honestly? The photos don't do it justice.
An Artist Rooted in Country
Thomas was born and raised on Kaurna Country, and that connection runs deep through every element of this piece. His speciality is realism, and he brings an extraordinary eye for detail to the natural world.
"I'm really interested in the microcosms of nature," Thomas explains. "The little water ripples and those moments that I think we forget to sometimes take in."
And he's captured them all. The trickling water of Cox Creek. The native birds that call our hills home. The trees that have stood watch for generations. Even the tiny geckos that scurry along the creek bed—details so precise you'll spot something new every time you pass.
Art That Speaks to Everyone
One of the most striking things about this mural is its accessibility. Thomas's realism style doesn't demand a particular cultural lens—it invites everyone in.
"I think the way that I paint captures moments within nature that everybody can relate to," he says. "It's really accessible to anyone, no matter what your culture is."
That's the beauty of it. Whether you've lived in Bridgewater your whole life or you're just passing through, this mural speaks a universal language. It says: stop. look. notice.
And judging by the number of locals who paused their day to chat with Thomas while he worked, the community is already listening.
A Community Effort
This mural didn't appear by magic. It took collaboration—the kind that makes small towns thrive.
The Stirling Markets provided the funding to bring the project to life. The Adelaide Hills Council lent their support. And Activating Bridgewater helped make this dream a reality.
Nathan Daniell, the chair of Activating Bridgewater, put it perfectly:
"This is something that will be highly valued by our community for many years to come."
What's Next?
If the buzz around town is anything to go by, this won't be the last mural we see in Bridgewater. The energy is infectious, the appetite for public art is real, and the possibilities are endless.
On to the next one, we think. What would you like to see?
But for now? Take a moment. Walk past the mural. Notice the ripples. Spot the gecko. Feel the connection to Country that Thomas has so generously shared with all of us.
And if you see him around town—say thank you. He's given us something pretty special.
